The number of Swedes who gamble is rising.

The Swedish Gambling Authority (SGA) has released the findings of its yearly survey in collaboration with SKOP.

According to the report, 29% of all Swedes had bet at least once a week, and 73% of all Swedes had gambled in the previous 12 months.

"When did you last play?" was the question posed. A third of the respondents, or 34%, had gambled at some time in the preceding week, and 53% indicated they had done so in the previous month.

Men were represented more heavily than women in this latter group, making up 41% and 28% of the category, respectively.

Compared to younger people, those over 50 were also more likely to have gambled in the previous week.

Furthermore, 4% of respondents indicated they would definitely play with an unauthorised organisation, 16% said "yes, maybe," and one in five respondents stated they were willing to play with an unregistered company.

Swedes were more likely than other people to have seen or heard online gambling advertisements.

When asked how frequently they had seen advertisements for gambling on different digital platforms, 53% of respondents said they had seen them on websites, according to SKOP.

Conversely, 38% of respondents claimed to have seen advertisements for gambling on social media, and 37% claimed to have seen them on websites that provide videos, such YouTube.

Lotteries and number games were the most popular gambling activity in Sweden, as 75 percent of players have engaged in them.

86% of gamblers had their games at home, up 7% from 2020. Furthermore, 59% of those who had participated in gaming within the previous year were aware of Spelpaus.se, Sweden's self-exclusion registry. This was an increase over the prior year's 57%.
